How to Build your Own Tiki Bar -
Tiki Hut Builder's guide
This step by step manual will guide you through the entire process!
Build your Own Tiki Bar
The First Step in building your tiki bar is deciding on the style, size and
shape of your tiki bar. We truly believe that no tiki bar can be to small
and never shall it be to big. You can build a square, rectangle or even a
pentagon shaped tiki bar.
Please view our photo gallery for some design
ideas.
Secondly, you need to decide what type of materials to
use, taking into consideration your location and year round temperatures.
Visit our Wood Guide for Additional Helpful Hints.
Now that you've decided on the type of wood you'll
construct your Tiki Bar or Hut out of - Will you need to worry about
protecting it with a Polyurethane? We'll tell you - coming soon!
The Base - No matter what area or location a treated
lumber seems to be the best bet.
The Skirting - Just about anything you choose as long as
you apply a weather shield, should be good to go. Maybe use some bamboo
strips, cedar or tongue and groove some cypress for a luxurious look and
feel.

The Bartop - Now this
is where you have to use your better judgment, time and time again many use
oak only to find out that no matter how many coats of spar urethane you use,
it'll never be enough. Maybe consider cypress or the most durable of all
Ceramic.
Lastly, The Thatch - Oh how we love the look and feel of authentic thatch;
it's defiantly hard to resist, but it does have it's drawbacks. Authentic
thatch has a life span of about 3 - 5 years in your southern states and only
about a 1 -2 lifespan in your northern states - that's why we offer a
wonderful product called Dura Thatch. Dura-Thatch is an artificial,
synthetic thatch that comes with a 20 Year manufacturers warranty against
loss of color or texture, it will not shed or crack and it is UV
rated. Dura thatch materials are produced using a hi-tech polymer plastic
which looks, sounds, and feels like realistic thatch leaves without all the
mess and maintenance.
